WATCH HIV Upcoming Event: CAHR 2017 Ancillary Event
The annual CAHR Conference is the premier gathering in Canada for those working in all disciplines of HIV/AIDS research, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic.
Mar 06, 2017
Once again, leading edge topics will be discussed during a mix of Plenary, Concurrent and Special Sessions, which will allow you to connect with researchers, frontline public health and community-based workers, policy makers, people living with HIV and AIDS and others interested in the field of HIV research.
Attendees will meet to share the outcomes of new research; to honour new investigators and to acknowledge the achievements of major contributors to the field; to discuss some of the wider issues related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic; and to elect a Board of Directors to carry on the work of the Association.
This year’s conference theme is “We’re Not Done Yet”. Tremendous successes have been achieved in the fight against HIV-AIDS. A larger than ever proportion of patients are now on life-saving antiretroviral therapy, pre-exposure prophylaxis was shown to be effective in preventing new infections, mother-to-child transmission has been contained in a handful of countries, and immune responses to HIV and immune correlates of protection are better understood than ever before, leading the way to promising vaccine development. However, the decrease in worldwide incidence rates have plateaued, access to care and treatment remains problematic for many people living with HIV worldwide, stigma is still heavily present, drug resistance and accelerated aging remains of concern, financing a sustainable response is challenging, and an efficient vaccine against HIV and a cure to HIV-AIDS are still over the horizon. HIV continues to kill.
As a united and collaborative group of researchers, health care workers, community workers, students, educators, advocates, volunteers, people living with HIV, and policy makers, we still have many objectives to pursue and lots of work to do to improve the life of people living with HIV and eventually overcome the epidemic. We’re not done yet. We invite you to join us next April in vibrant and culturally diverse Montreal, where CAHR 2017 will be held. There and then, fostering meaningful involvement, we can pause together for a moment, benchmark our achievements, reinvigorate our collective commitment, brainstorm and plan ahead for the remainder of the struggle to end HIV-AIDS once and for all.
Over the coming months, details on the Conference will be added to this website as they become available. We look forward to your participation!
