DMDS Roundtable: Social Media Research Ethics - Power and Provocations

This roundtable brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines to assess the embedded power structures of social media research and the frameworks for assessing such research as ‘ethical’. Theresa Kenney is a PhD candidate in the Department of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University, and a 2020-2021 Sherman Centre Graduate resident.
 
Karen Louise Smith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film at Brock University, and a collaborator on the eQuality Project.
 
Sarah Brophy is a Professor in the Department of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University, and Co-Director of the Communication, New Media, and Cultural Studies PhD program.
 
Andrea Zeffiro is an Assistant Professor in the Communications Studies and Multimedia department at McMaster, and Academic Director of the Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship. 
 
Emily Van Haren is is a PhD candidate in the Department of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University, and a 2020-2021 Sherman Centre Graduate resident.
