Off to Israel!

McMaster Religious Studies student Rebecca Sampson will be spending the Winter 2018 term in Jerusalem, thanks to the Freeman Family Bursary.

Nov 30, 2017

Rebecca Sampson is in her third year at McMaster, doing an undergraduate degree in Honours Religious Studies. Ever since starting at McMaster, she knew that wanted to spend time in Israel, specifically Jerusalem and she had always dreamed of being able to study at The Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University specifically.

She is very involved in the McMaster community. She has been an executive member of Hillel since her first year. She has also been a welcome week representative on ‘blu cru’ for the faculty of Social Sciences and just this year was inducted into the McMaster chapter of the Golden Key Honour Society. Outside of McMaster, she is the Jewish representative for the Delta Pi Sorority - Beta Chapter and teaches music at the Temple Anshe Sholom religious school.

Attending Hebrew University will help her take a step forward in becoming a Reform Rabbi one day. This experience will allow her to dive deep into the culture and history of the Jewish people, while studying about those specific subjects at the place they happened. Having the opportunity to study with renowned professors and other engaged students will further her education and passion for the Jewish community. She hopes to learn and grow while at Hebrew University both educationally, but also through the experience of living in such a beautiful and diverse country.
