Biography
Ismaël Traoré is a PhD Candidate in sociology with an expertise in social psychology, social inequality, and the sociology of health and illness.
His dissertation explores the frameworks white antiracist activists use to conceptualize and understand antiracism, and investigates how they respond to racism in their everyday lives and the challenges and facilitators they face in advocating for equity.
Mr. Traoré is honored to be the recipient of the Mike Skinner Award. It recognizes his years-long community and campus contributions to equity, inclusion, and diversity. He is also the recipient of three grants by the Government of B.C., the University of British Columbia, and McMaster University.
Mr. Traoré has co-produced a documentary with Dr. Lisa Watt titled Hamilton’s Ugly Underbelly: Racism (2015). This educational film documents contemporary forms of racism, activism, and community healing in Hamilton, Ontario. It is available for free viewing on his website at www.ismaeltraore.com
