Pareja Cummings Marie N., Plaster Specialist
Biography
Dr Cummings is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Dickinson College in the Archaeology and Anthropology Department, an adjunct in the Art and Design Department at Millersville University, and an adjunct in the Humanities Department for Pennsylvania State University in Harrisburg. She is a consulting scholar for the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology's Mediterranean Section, where she is also director of the Plasters Analysis Project (PLAN) and serves as Co-Chair for the Ancient Painting and Decorative Media Studies Group.
Marie’s research dovetails materials analysis with iconographic studies, color theory, and visual studies to gain more nuanced understandings of identity, luxury, and exchange in the ancient Mediterranean, her most recent projects detailing some of the earliest evidence for Afro-Eurasian exchange. Marie joined the Stelida project in 2017 as a trench supervisor, then from 2018 as one of our two Project Managers; since 2019 she has been a publishing member of the team, working on the plaster remains from the Late Bronze Age peak sanctuary. She also serves as plaster specialist for Sissi and Mochlos Excavation Projects on Crete, and on the Greek mainland, she is assistant director of the Southern Phokis Regional Project.
