Institute on Globalization & the Human Condition

Biography

Emily O’Kell is a recent graduate from Wilfrid Laurier, class of 2018. She graduated with Honors in Bachelor of Arts majoring in Human Rights and Human Diversity. While attending Wilfrid Laurier Emily volunteered with numerous groups on campus focused on Social Justice. These groups created awareness and promoted conversation surrounding current events and human rights locally, nationally and globally. During the summer of 2017, she spent three weeks in Mexico City on a field course focusing on Human Rights and Human Migration. This field course sparked an interest in the ways in which humans deal with strife, danger and migration on a larger scale and made Emily aware of the benefits of discourse and education with regards to global crises. Throughout her four-year degree at Wilfrid Laurier, Emily’s interests were broad, however she now finds herself drawn towards issues surrounding sexuality, feminism and social justice.
