Biography
My research focuses on Christian-Muslim interreligious encounters between the seventh to tenth centuries in Greek, Syriac, and Arabic literature. My current book project explores how Christians composed their own account of the “People of the Book”—a famous phrase from the Qurʼān but also one that is instructive in understanding how Christians theorized their relationship with Muslims. Drawing upon insights from affect theory, I show how the "book," as both a material object and idea, was an affective source and site for the production of difference and belonging, friendship and animosity, between Christians and Muslims in late antiquity and the medieval period.
