I graduated from McMaster’s Social Psychology program back in 2018. What originally drew me to Social Sciences at McMaster back in high school was that my first year would be generalized – as I was still lost when I thought “what do I want to do with my life?”. Luckily, my first year exposed me to a plethora of programs and topics to explore. What intrigued me about Social Psychology was the small program size, program-specific content and exploration of Psychology and Sociology as their own independent programs. It helped encourage me to be well-rounded in my approaches to thinking and interpreting the world around me! It also contributed to helping me be more understanding and open-minded towards others in life; given different identities of everyone around us.

Currently, my pursuits have landed me in Human Resources. I work as a Human Resources Recruiter for a Private Company. The benefit of my program allowing for broad fields of study meant I had options when I graduated. I wasn’t restricted to pursue only one career path or discipline; I could further explore my inquisitive nature. I then pursued a post-graduate program in Human Resources Management at a local college. Everyday I still consider the impact of studying social psychology related to my career. Social Psychology focuses on studying vast groups of people; the interactions with individuals, other groups, and elements of identity and culture. Working in Human Resources I am continually working alongside a variety of different people from multiple groups all with their own identities and culture. I would say, I’ve been adequately prepared. I would recommend anyone interested in McMaster University to highly consider studying Social Psychology. You won’t be disappointed!
