Biography
John P. Hayes is a PhD Candidate (ABD) in the Department of Political Science at McMaster University. He specializes in Comparative Public Policy and International Relations. His dissertation focuses on Mexico's mining industry (1988-2018) and the dynamics of federal policy implementation, policy choice, and institutional reform. Empirically, the project traces the multi-stakeholder negotiations and contests for agenda-setting in mining policy across numerous regulatory agencies and public administrative entities that caused significant change in Mexico’s natural resource governance.
John holds a MA in Political Science from York University (2018) and a BA (Hons) in Latin American Studies from the University of British Columbia (2012), with a minor diploma in Mexican Social Movements from the Universidad Autónoma de México - Xochimilco, Mexico City (2010).
John is Research Coordinator of the Extractive Resource Governance Program, University of Calgary, School of Public Policy, and a research associate in the Development Studies Program at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, México.
