Biography

Shelly is born and raised in Saskatchewan and is currently a Registered Social Worker employed as a Supervisor for the Positive Living Program (HIV and Hepatitis C Treatment Program) and TB Prevention and Control Saskatchewan with the Saskatoon Health Region. For the past 12 years Shelly has dedicated her professional work in the area of HIV in Saskatchewan. Shelly has worked as a Street Outreach Worker, Outpatient Addiction Counsellor, Outreach HIV Case Manager and as a HIV Clinic Social Worker. The populations Shelly has mostly served have been people who experience substance use challenges, are street involved, connected with gangs, and/or engaged with sex work. Shelly’s employment experience has provided her the ability to work within a broad spectrum of HIV care, from prevention and harm reduction, testing and treatment and has been during a time where Saskatchewan has had a substantial increase in new cases of HIV to a point of having the highest rates in Canada at twice the national average. Throughout all of this work, Shelly has felt privileged to walk with the many people she has encountered along the way whether it be through their joy, their grief or any other successes or challenges life has brought them. In her spare time, Shelly enjoys spending time with her partner Scott and their two pets, going to concerts and cooking adventures.
