Biography

Amy Cui is a recent graduate from McMaster University graduating class of 2017. She graduated with Honors in Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science and Sociology. Due to her international background, she is fluent in German, English, and Mandarin; she also obtains German TestDAF proficiency certificate. She enjoys researching about Western European political systems with specialization on healthcare policies of countries within the European Union. While pursuing her degree at McMaster University, she has participated actively in organizing social events for international exchange students. Her network of international students has encouraged her to complete an exchange semester at Aarhus University in Denmark. Her exchange experience has then allowed her to personally observe the Scandinavian healthcare system and the German refugee crises, which helped her to conduct detailed research on German refugees’ access towards healthcare. This summer, she was able to closely analyze the Ontario healthcare system through her role as an assistant teacher within the elementary school program at McMaster Children’s Hospital to provide academic social services for children during their course of chemotherapy treatment. Her passion of supporting the development of pediatric oncology has strongly motivated her to consider conducting further research on the rising cases of pediatric cancer caused by current political conflicts, as well as the access towards adequate pediatric cancer treatment for children around the world.
