Biography

Kelly Coxson is in her first year of the PhD program at McMaster University. She received a BA in Sociology and Community Development from Western University in 2011. After several years working in the non-profit sector Kelly completed a Master of Arts in Sociology at McMaster University in 2015 where she researched the experiences of young adults returning to complete secondary school. 

Kelly has a strong professional background working with youth experiencing poverty, homelessness and street involvement. Her career has included front-line, research, and board of director roles. Informed by her experiences interacting with a wide range of social service and non-profit agencies Kelly’s doctoral research will explore the social construction of spaces intended for social justice work and how variations in these spaces impacts service users and social workers.
