Athanasoulis Demitris, Co-Director
Biography
Dr Athanasoulis is the Director of the Cycladic Ephorate of Antiquities, and a Byzantine archaeologist by training; he is also a member of the Central Archaeological Council, of the Board of Directors of the European Center for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments, of the Christian Archaeological Society, and President and Member of Scientific Committees and Service Councils of the Ministry of Culture, amongst many other senior roles. He has conducted dozens of excavations, has designed, and directed two new archaeological museums (Byzantine Museum of Argolis, and the Crusader Theme Museum at Killini Castle), plus numerous major restoration projects, archaeological exhibitions, and contributed to dozens of European programs. A recent collaboration of note was the site-specific exhibition by renowned British sculptor Anthony Gormley on the island of Delos. Dr Athanasoulis became director of the Stelida project in 2015, while also directing the current major rebuilding and redesigning of the Naxos Archaeological Museum; he can be contacted at dathanasoulis@culture.gr
