Biography

Richard Stubbs has published widely on security and political economy issues especially with regard to East and Southeast Asia. His most recent research has been on East Asian regionalism, regional international relations in Southeast Asia, China-Southeast Asia relations, the fate of the Developmental State, and the Malayan Emergency.  His most recent books are Rethinking Asia’s Economic Miracle: The Political Economy of War, Prosperity and Crisis (Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2005) and, as co-editor with Geoffrey R.D. Underhill, Political Economy and the Changing Global Order, 3rd Edition (Toronto and Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2006) and as co-editor with Amitav Acharya, Theorizing Southeast Asian Relations (London: Routledge, 2008). His latest journal article is ‘The ASEAN Alternative: Ideas, Institutions and the Challenge to “Global” Governance’,  The Pacific Review 21 (No.4 December) 2008, 451-67.

International relations and the politics of the Asia Pacific region. My current research centres on political economy and security issues in the Asia Pacific.
