Biography

Laurie is a member of Six Nations Grand River Territory. She holds a Chartered Mediator’s designation with the ADR Institute of Canada and has been working as an Indigenous dispute resolution trainer and circle practitioner for First Nations families who are at risk of losing their children to the child welfare system. Her PhD research explores, through the application of Indigenous theoretical and scientific methods, how to make use of an Indigenous perspective to advance truth, reconciliation, and the decolonization of Ontario’s child welfare system while at the same time exposing the ways in which mainstream child welfare policies and procedures work to dampen transformation and repatriation.
